Professional Experience
Business Analyst (New York Life Insurance Co., Dec 2007 – Present)
- Recently
transferred to the Life Products System Development team from the
Production Support team to fill their need for additional
analytical resources.
- Served
as lead BA on Annuity Maturity project with expectations that I
would handle requirements gathering, documentation, QA test plan
development/review, project status reporting and backup to the
project manager. I served many roles on the project and we were
able to implement the required changes according to the aggressive
schedule dictated by Compliance.
- Selected
by management to create and deliver presentations on projects of
importance at quarterly divisional meetings.
- As a member of the Production Support team expectations were that I would assist internal customers with problem analysis, tracking, testing and resolution development. My efforts went above and beyond these expectations and were often praised by the customers I assisted.
- I developed a monthly report that provided senior managers with a detailed view and a clear understanding of the problems being reported for the policy administrative systems. I then documented the process to produce this report and trained another team member on the process, which continues to be used by that team. This documented process inevitably saved my former team several hours each month when creating the monthly report.
- Served as coach to teammates on personal and professional matters, which led to greater productivity and efficiency of staff and helped reduce internal conflict on the team. I often found ways to motivate and encourage them with positive reinforcement.
Previous responsibilities included:
- Serving as lead tester for Billing, Collections and Transfers team. Testing efforts often led to early problem identification and avoidance of unnecessary costs. I frequently received positive feedback from project and area leaders on my efforts and ability to uncover problems in a very timely manner, often saving uncounted time and money.
- Reviewing business, functional and technical requirements to ensure proper test plans, strategies and methods are used and can be completed in a timely and efficient manner.
- Leading collaboration efforts with customers, IT counterparts and other testers to ensure successful implementation of solutions to new or existing problems.
- Developing detailed training manuals, procedures and other documentation for our customers and teammates. Many of the job aids I created continue to provide efficiencies to former teammates.
- Performing budget reconciliation and coordination for the IPS Inforce Systems area for two years. Responsibilities included working with CVP and team leads to develop current and future year forecasts as well as reconciliation of expenses incurred to budgeted amounts on a monthly basis. Total allocated budget just over $5M, with approximately 80% attributable to FTE salary.
Business Analyst (TIAA-CREF, Jul 2006 – Dec 2007)
- Served as Project Manager on highly visible and sensitive financial data correction effort impacting more than 100,000 shareholder accounts with adjustments totaling several million dollars. This was a multi-year effort with approximately 20 FTEs and 7 external consultants.
- Personally led the data analysis to identify, classify and stratify incorrect account balances. Team consisted of programmers, actuaries, testers and external consultants.
- Developed recommendations for testing of solutions and external communications; gaining consensus for these recommendations from stakeholders throughout the organization including Compliance, Marketing and Communications, Client Services, Actuarial and others.
- This was the largest and most successful of all projects that were part of the larger remediation program underway at the time.
Change Control Analyst (TIAA-CREF, Mar 2000 – Jul 2006)
- Coordinated development, testing, implementation, and maintenance of change control tool used by internal IT resources to record and track changes, problems and incidents of the Production IT environment.
- Managed focus group of internal customers and facilitated monthly meetings, leading to process and technology changes resulting in increased efficiency.
- Wrote specifications for recommended enhancements and communicated enhancements to affected audiences via written documentation and presentations.
- Communicated proposed modifications to affected audiences.
- Created and delivered customized training programs on more than 20 occasions for groups as small as 2 to as large as 20.
Tax Compliance Analyst (TIAA-CREF, Aug 1990 – Mar 2000)
- Business area lead for new tax withholding and reporting system development.
- Developed business requirements and test plans for new mainframe based system that allowed for a more efficient method of tracking, reporting, correcting, and researching disbursements from pension accounts and the associated taxes withheld from them.
- Played an integral role in preparing hundreds of thousands of annual tax reporting forms for our clients such as 1099-R and 5498, as well as tax forms for Canada and Puerto Rico.
- Worked with IT counterparts and other Compliance Analysts to ensure government reporting was accurate and in compliance with required dates, formats, and regulations.
